Slapping the life back into the bare bum-cheeks of East London, Twisted Licks returns to give you your monthly dose of musical mutiny. We like music you can get your teeth into; eclecticism without the bollocks....

March 21st is another corker from indie/alternative club night Twisted Licks with pretty noise from headliners exlovers, who are set to charm Shoreditch with their delicate harmonies and wistful lyrics. One of those bands that weave their way into your subconscious, you’ll be humming their melodies one minute until you come to and realise you've sold your nan for a rare 7". Following from the success of their debut single ‘Just a Silhouette’ (Chess Club) and tours with Golden Silvers and Pete and The Pirates, they release their second single ‘Photobooth’ on March 30th through indie label Young and Lost. It’s hard to believe they only formed in 2008!

Also on the bill are the eccentric wonky-pop sound contortionists My Toys Like Me. Mesmerising, haunting and trippy – it’s pop… but not as you know it. Pinch yourself, you are awake and no, there’s nothing in your tea. Weird and brilliant, you have to see it to believe it, and even then you’re not sure. There’s something futuristic, something other worldly and something childish about the band, a heady mix that gets right under your skin.

DJ sets will be provided by DJs from Tim Fanucci and Guy Fierce Panda.

Slapping the life back into the bare bumcheeks of Shoreditch, Twisted Licks gives you your monthly dose of musical mutiny. Music you can get your teeth into; eclecitism without the bollocks....

SCANNERS are a highly sought after post-punk band from London fronted by Sarah Daly; an enigmatic creature on vocals and guitar who oozes style and charisma to rival Polly Jean Harvey. They’ve supported everyone from The Wedding Present, The Fever, Electric Six and Juliette & The Licks as well as playing (and headlining!) festivals across the globe. Their last album Violence is Golden was released in the UK in February 2008 to critical acclaim.

THE PHANTOM BAND follow a long line of Scottish talent brought to the forefront of the alternative scene by indie label Chemikal Underground. Their highly anticipated debut album 'Checkmate Savage' (Jan 09) has already received rave reviews from the likes of The Guardian (4/5) and The Scotsman (4/5), and earnt them single of the week from Q magazine and a place on Mojo’s 9 bands for 2009...

**This event has already sold a number of tickets (somehow?!) without us announcing the line up... we expect it to be VERY busy - and if our opening night is anything to go by it's going to be RAMMED!**

TICKETS ARE JUST £6 - GET THEM HERE: Slapping the life back into the bare bumcheeks of Shoreditch, Twisted Licks gives you your monthly dose of musical mutiny. Music you can get your teeth into; eclecitism without the bollocks....

Join us on SAT 24th JAN for our opening night, with...

JAMES YUILL (live)
JOSH WELLER (live)
GUY FIERCE PANDA (on the decks, but woop - he's alive too!)

We've got a new cheap as shit-loads of chips door price of £6. This ones gonna be busy, get your tickets from http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user?query=search®ion;=xxx&category;=misc&search;=james+yuill

JAMES YUILL has managed (somehow) to unite folk and electronica and if you haven't fallen for it already, trust me, it's bloody brilliant. His addictive debut 'This Sweet Love' was all over the radio in 08 and now 'No Suprises' is headed the same way, coming out on Chess Club 2 days after Twisted. Chess Club always get it right. Have a listen on his myspace http://www.myspace.com/jamesyuill. We've had a lot of interest in this one, so it might be an idea to get your tickets before you come (http://www.ticketweb.co.uk).

Also playing is the cheeky charmer JOSH WELLER. We spotted him on tour with the Maccabees, but he's also been touring with the intimidatingly great Born Ruffians and has an Xmas single out now with Paloma Faith. Stalk him and see what all the fuss is about, he loves it. http://www.myspace.com/joshweller

ACOUSTIC LADYLAND are “one of London’s consistently jaw-dropping live acts” (Evening Standard) and they're set to storm the city in a single night of jazz-punk debauchery with the speed brass cacophonists, DEATHRAY TREBUCHAY ("Ace punk meets samba meets surf" - Time Out).

SATURDAY 17th JANUARY sees eponymous promoters TWISTED LICKS team up with THE BORDERLINE to bring the genre-bending jazz-rockers ACOUSTIC LADYLAND and dynamic six piece DEATHRAY TREBUCHAY to the heart of London. Shake off the winter blues in a whirlwind of brass fuelled anarchy.

Joining these two stupidly good bands is none other than the one and only...NICO PEREZ! Known for his turbo charged mash up sets, Nico's DJ sets are reason alone to dig out your dancing shoes...

CMU ON ROSE ELINOR DOUGALL:
CMU’s favourite Pipette (and now ex-Pipette) will be joining us to show off some of her rather fine new solo material, including her fantastic debut single, 'Another Version Of Pop Song', which is due for release on 8 Dec, and says everything you need to know in its title. Stepping away from the retro, neo-girl group sound of The Pipettes, Rose’s new material sees her creating a clean slate for herself with the only link to the past being her rich, familiar voice. Do not miss this.

CMU ON CITY REVERB:
Featuring former Radio 1 DJ Chris Coco amongst their number, City Reverb release their debut album, ‘Lost City Folk’, on 2 Feb, which delivers a mix of electronic and live band elements to create a unique and beautifully atmospheric sound that Chris describes as “robot soul”. Their eclectic clash of influences creates a mellow, yet uplifting sound that will provide the perfect opening to our winter festivities.

THE BASICS:
o The CMU Social is the monthly networking and showcase night for readers of the CMU Daily, the UK music business’ biggest and most popular daily news service.
o On Tuesday 9 Dec the eighth episode of the CMU Social will feature performances from two of CMU’s favourite new artists of the moment, Rose Elinor Dougall and City Reverb.
o As well as the music, the CMU Social is a real opportunity for music business people to meet, network and generally socialise – or prove their pop trivia knowledge with the CMU Pop Quiz (past winners include Sunday Best, Something In Construction and Olswangs/Glastonbury).
o On top of that, there’s a happy hour and well-priced food available from 7pm to 8pm
o Entry is free to CMU Daily readers, who just need to email the names of themselves and their guests to social@cmumusicnetwork.co.uk. Tickets will also be available on the door for £5.

CMU ON THE SOCIAL:
CMU launched its monthly Social in April, and since then a whole host of great acts have taken to our stage, including Infadels, A.Human, Maths Class, Tim Ten Yen, Post War Years, Vessels, The Deer Tracks, Model Horror, Sportsday Megaphone, RestLessList, Big Strides, Matt Finucane and The Penny Black Remedy. With the best audience and greatest atmosphere we’ve ever experienced at an industry showcase (and we’ve been to many), the night also features the increasingly infamous CMU Pop Quiz plus the finest mix of tunes from the CMU:DJs.
